Treasure Coast March for Life

January 22, 2017 marks the 44th anniversary of the dreadful Roe v Wade decision that has resulted in the slaughter of over 60,000,000 preborn baby girls and boys in America. Many Floridians will take part in the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. There are several events throughout Florida though where prolifers will gather to remember the babies who have been lost and stand for life. We encourage you to make plans to attend one of these events near you in Baker, Broward, Citrus, Clay, Duval, Escambia, Flagler, Lake, Miami-Dade, Osceola, Polk, Sarasota, St. Johns, and St. Lucie Counties.

Old Woman's Hand BabyWe as a nation are poised for the first time in decades to potentially have Supreme Court justices nominated that could indeed bring an end to the shedding of innocent blood. Now, more than any time since the 1973 Roe V. Wade decision that legalized the killing of the unborn, we need to move forward in our fight for the right to life, to establish Personhood for all who are created in the image of God.

Since that dreadful law, we have seen approximately 60 million babies’ lives taken through abortion, an entire generation gone! And if that is not tragic enough, we now know that their little body parts that were ripped apart are even being illegally sold for profit. It is no wonder that we are seeing such an unleashing of violence, hatred, and murder in America and it’s time to end this madness!

We at Personhood Florida are committed to work harder than ever to promote the Personhood of all Floridians, to recognize the inalienable right to life, liberty, and property for all, from the pre-born to the disabled and elderly.

Our Florida state constitution requires something of us when it states:

We, the people of the State of Florida, being grateful to Almighty God for our constitutional liberty, in order to secure its benefits … do ordain and establish this constitution … All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life ….

As we close out the 2016 year, we want to thank you as always for supporting our efforts through your prayers, time and finances which have enabled us to educate and support pro-life legislators as well as work with other pro-life organizations and churches throughout the state. During the last year, we endorsed over 80 pro-life candidates through our Personhood Florida ProLife PAC, produced prolife voter guides through our voter guide website www.FLVotesValues.com, and went to Tallahassee to share one on one with our representatives about the urgency to ‘take a stand’ for life. We participated in the largest national pro-life gathering, the ‘Bring America Back to Life’ event, in Cleveland, Ohio which states Personhood as part of its’ platform.

Shock and Awe

After the Trump victory, many Hillary Clinton supporters and even many Donald Trump supporters have experienced shock and awe! The worst thing that could happen though would be for Christians and ProLifers to fall asleep and let trust Trump and the Republican party to defend innocent human life, restore liberty and justice for all, appoint constructionist justices, and defend the constitution. We must hold all of our elected officials (federal, state, and local) accountable to protect preborn children, establish justice, and follow the Bible. We must be salt and light and kick in the gates of Hell until Satan has not one inch of territory in our nation.

As Floridians go to the polls to vote on constitutional amendments, it is important to apply Biblical principles to the proposed constitutional amendments and county referendums. It is important also to remember that The Florida Constitution is the supreme law of our state subordinate only to the US Constitution. We never want to put evil into the FL Constitution or add items that could be handled legislatively.

Below, you will find recommendations on the proposed constitutional amendments as well as a sermon by Pastor Bryan Longworth which applies biblical principles to the following amendments and proposed county referendums.

Opening Passage — Psalm 149.

Proposed Amendment 1 – Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy Choice

This amendment establishes a right under Florida’s constitution for consumers to own or lease solar equipment installed on their property to generate electricity for their own use. State and local governments shall retain their abilities to protect consumer rights and public health, safety and welfare, and to ensure that consumers who do not choose to install solar are not required to subsidize the costs of backup power and electric grid access to those who do.

A vote “for” Amendment 1 supports adding a section in the state constitution giving residents of Florida the right to own or lease solar energy equipment for personal use while also enacting constitutional protection for any state or local law ensuring that residents who do not produce solar energy can abstain from subsidizing its production.

A vote “against” Amendment 1 opposes constitutionalizing the right to own or lease solar equipment and the protection of laws preventing subsidization of solar energy, thereby, leaving the personal use of solar power protected as a right by state statute, and not by the constitution.

Search and Seizure

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

Proposed Amendment 2 – Use of Marijuana for Debilitating Medical Conditions

Allows medical use of marijuana for individuals with debilitating medical conditions as determined by a licensed Florida physician. Allows caregivers to assist patients’ medical use of marijuana. The Department of Health shall register and regulate centers that produce and distribute marijuana for medical purposes and shall issue identification cards to patients and caregivers. Applies only to Florida law. Does not immunize violations of federal law or any non-medical use, possession or production of marijuana.

Increased costs from this amendment to state and local governments cannot be determined. There will be additional regulatory costs and enforcement activities associated with the production, sale, use and possession of medical marijuana. Fees may offset some of the regulatory costs. Sales tax will likely apply to most purchases, resulting in a substantial increase in state and local government revenues that cannot be determined precisely. The impact on property tax revenues cannot be determined.

A “yes” vote supports legalizing medical marijuana for individuals with specific debilitating diseases or comparable debilitating conditions as determined by a licensed state physician.

A “no” vote opposes this proposal for legalization of medical marijuana, keeping the state’s current more limited medical marijuana program in place.

Biblical Law – Personal Responsibility

Proposed Amendment 3 – Tax Exemption for Totally and Permanently Disabled First Responders.

Proposing an amendment to the State Constitution to authorize a first responder, who is totally and permanently disabled as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty, to receive relief from ad valorem taxes assessed on homestead property, if authorized by general law. If approved by voters, the amendment takes effect January 1, 2017.

A “yes” vote supports providing property tax exemptions to first responders who have been permanently disabled in the line of duty.

A “no” vote opposes providing property tax exemptions for first responders disabled in the line of duty.

Property Rights — Deuteronomy 19:14 – “You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which the men of old have set, in your inheritance which you will inherit in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.”

Proposed Amendment 5 – Homestead Tax Exemption for Certain Senior, Low-Income, Long-Term Residents; Determination of Just Value.

Proposing an amendment to the State Constitution to revise the homestead tax exemption that may be granted by counties or municipalities for property with just value less than $250,000 owned by certain senior, low-income, long-term residents to specify that just value is determined in the first tax year the owner applies and is eligible for the exemption. The amendment takes effect January 1, 2017, and applies retroactively to exemptions granted before January 1, 2017.

A “yes” vote supports providing eligible senior citizens with certain property tax exemptions and allowing home values to remain fixed after application for the exemption, even if the value later exceeds the designated threshold.

A “no” vote opposes this proposal for providing senior citizens with certain property tax exemptions and the ability to have fixed home values, even if the value later exceeds the designated threshold.

No.7 – Half-Cent Local Government Surtax

To provide for projects exclusively in St. Lucie County to improve local roads, reduce traffic congestion, improve public safety, improve local water quality and other similar uses authorized under Florida law and to seek matching funds for these purposes, shall St. Lucie County levy a half-cent sales tax for twenty years, subject to review by a citizens advisory committee to ensure that all dollars are spent on St. Lucie County projects?

The Importance of Judicial Elections

Activist Judges in America have accomplished in the courts what the House and Senate couldn’t accomplish legislatively. They’ve twisted and changed the constitution to create case law to “justify” removing prayer, the Bible, and the Ten Commandments from public classrooms and nearly every area of public life. They’ve created a right to privacy that first allowed married couples to purchase contraception. This new right was then extended to unmarried couples and then further extended to allow a woman the “right” to pay an abortionist to murder her preborn child. This right was later extended to homosexuals convicted of sodomy. One can only wonder what will be the next step.

Our founding fathers feared that the courts would one day rule our country and strip our freedoms from us. As Thomas Jefferson noted, “Our judges are as honest as other men, and not more so. They have — with others — the same passions for party, for power, and the privilege of their corps. . . . And their power the more dangerous as they are in office for life and not responsible — as the other functionaries are — to the elective control.”

In the Federal Court system, we have no way of reigning in the judiciary short of impeachment, and impeachment is rare. The last politician who attempted to reign in the federal judiciary was forced to resign after facing trumped up charges.

In Florida, however, Justices come up for retention votes after originally being appointed by the Governor. Sadly, most Floridians pay little attention to the judges up for retention, and little knowledge is available on the judicial philosophy of judges and how they’ve ruled on previous cases. Consequently, judges normally are retained with 65 – 75% of the vote.

This must stop! We are in the process of developing a network of attorneys statewide to be constitutional watchdogs in the courts by reporting on how the judges rule on various issues before them, and we the people need to educate ourselves and cast out the judges who view our constitution as “a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary, which they may twist and shape into any form they please.” (Jefferson). Justice Charles T. Canady, Vote Yes to Retain

Appointed by: Governor Charlie Crist.

Justice Canady is a solid conservative who has served as a US Congressman and an attorney for Florida Governor Jeb Bush. As a Congressman, Canady voted for prolife legislation, voted to ban homosexual marriage, to limit welfare to two years and cut welfare spending, and to give poor kids Opportunity Scholarships to attend private schools. Canady served as one of the prosecuting attorney’s in President Bill Clinton’s Impeachment trial. As a lawyer for Governor Jeb Bush, Canady defended Opportunity Scholarships against legal challenges. Canady serves on the board of a home for unwed mothers. Canady’s nomination received praise from conservatives and the presidents of the Cuban American Bar Association and the Florida Chamber of Commerce but drew criticism from the ACLU director. While being sworn in, Canady asked, “For those of you who pray, I ask that you pray that I will always judge with wisdom and integrity as a faithful servant of the Lord.”

Canady wrote the dissenting opinion on the 2010 FL Proposed Constitutional Amendment 9, arguing that the court should have allowed the amendment to stay on the ballot. Amendment 9 would have given Floridians the right to decide whether to participate in the Federal health care system or not.

Appointed by: Governor Charlie Crist.

In 2000, Justice Jorge Labarga played a role in the hanging chad case in Palm Beach County ruling that election officials “could not necessarily disregard irregular chads that had not been fully punched out on ballot cards.” (www.nydailynews.com)

In 2008, Labarga made threatening comments about an attorney. “When you pick a fight with a judge, ultimately, you are gonna lose. Not today, but five years from now, 10 years from now, six years from now. That judge is going to remember you, always, always,” Labarga said.

“And, you know, when you do — there is an old saying that if you go after a judge, you better kill him. Because, like I said, it’s true.” (judicialtransperancynow.blogspot.com)

Labarga also was one of five justices to vote to take 2010 FL Proposed Constitutional Amendment 9 off of the ballot. Amendment 9 would have given Floridians the right to decide whether to participate in the Federal health care system or not. (HealthCareNewsFlorida.org)

Appointed by: Governor Charlie Crist.

Justice Ricky L. Polston is a solid conservative. Prior to becoming a Justice, he defended the state’s “Choose Life” license plate in court. The Choose Life license plate allows owners of automobiles to pay an additional amount with their tag registration fee that goes to mothers who choose to give their baby up for adoption. As an appellant court judge, Polston wrote a dissenting opinion in favor of opportunity scholarships (vouchers). Polston has four biological children and has adopted six children from Florida’s foster care system.

Polston joined Canady in a dissenting opinion where Canady argued that the court should have allowed 2010 FL Proposed Constitutional Amendment 9 to stay on the ballot. Amendment 9 would have given Floridians the right to decide whether to participate in the Federal health care system or not.

I’m planning to vote. Are You?

In Exodus 18:21, we read, “Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.”

In Deuteronomy 1:13 reminds a new generation of Israelites of the importance of selecting wise leaders, “‘Choose wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men from among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.'”

The first chief justice of the US Supreme Court admonished Americans with these words, “Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

This election, Americans who vote will determine who are rulers are. Americans who don’t vote will be stuck the politicians others voted for.

Sadly, about half of the Christians in this country aren’t even registered to vote, and about half of those who are registered won’t vote! If only a small percentage of the Christians who aren’t register get registered and vote, it could make a dramatic difference in this election.

There are many important races at the federal, state, and local level.It is vitally important that we elect as many candidates that will uphold Biblical values as possible to all levels of government. We need to restore checks and balances at the federal, state, and local levels to effectively reign in the various branches of government when they exceed their delegated authority.
